Platelet Rich Plasma/Fibrin for Hair Loss

Are you bothered by hair thinning or loss? Are you looking for an effective treatment to restore hair in affected areas?

Many men and women suffer from hair thinning and premature balding. Causes for hair loss differ from one person to another.

Dr. Peter Smilovits offers Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) and Platelet-rich Fibrin therapy for Hair Loss. PRP/PRF procedures involve a simple injection of your own platelets (cells in your blood) into your scalp. This is a safe and effective way to restore hair with minimal to no downtime.

What Is PRP/PRF For Hair Loss?

Platelet-rich Plasma (PRP) and now also a more effective option Platelet-rich Fibrin (PRF) for hair loss is a series of injections that use the components of a person’s own blood to stimulate, repair, and rejuvenate hair growth. Platelets are small cells in your blood that are involved in the blood clotting process and which contain healing growth factors. Those growth factors are like signals that give instructions to your tissue to regenerate and multiply.

When PRP is injected into the skin, it causes mild inflammation that triggers the healing process. Platelets release growth factors that work with your stem cells to reverse the miniaturization of the follicle and jump-start dormant hair back into the growth stage.

Benefits from PRP Hair Regrowth include:

Increases in the blood supply to the follicle

Increases hair thickness

Stimulates and promotes the growth phase

Balances hair growth cycle

Decrease hair loss

What Is The Procedure Like?

We start with a consultation. During your consultation, we will talk about what causes hair loss and what types of hair loss can be treated with PRP.

We then develop a treatment plan to deliver optimum results.

Day of your treatment: an anesthetic is applied to the treatment area. We will draw your blood which is then separated and concentrated through a process called centrifugation. We will take only the platelet-rich plasma and inject it into the desired areas of the scalp.

What Are The Side Effects?

There are minimal to no side effects associated with PRP treatment. Some patients may experience pain, pinpoint bleeding, mild headache, and/or redness at the injection sites. These side effects are generally resolved within a few days of the treatment. There is no activity restriction after treatment. Patients may also shower/shampoo their hair normally 24 hours after treatment.

What Are The Results And How Many Treatments Do I Need?

Depending on the patient’s response to the treatment, PRP is typically performed once a month for the first three months.

After this series of treatments, a 6-12 month treatment is needed to maintain results.

Patients should start to notice new growth in the area after their third treatment although it can take up to 6 months to judge the results visually in the mirror.

Results do vary from patient to patient and there is no guarantee that everyone will respond to treatment.

What Is The Cost Of PRP Treatments?

PRP for Hair Loss Treatments is $700 each. Or you can select a series of 3 treatments for $1750.

Is This A Cure For Baldness?

PRP for Hair Loss is NOT a cure for baldness (Androgenetic Alopecia). The genetic medical problem will always remain. However, there is great evidence that regular PRP For Hair Loss treatments can significantly slow down the effects of Androgenetic Alopecia and even work to increase hair density.
